Feeding the Homeless
The mission of Feeding the Homeless for Christ Outreach Ministry is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and to empower individuals to help satisfy their needs—whether their need is finding employment, locating decent and affordable housing, achieving freedom from addiction, or obtaining counseling regarding social issues associated with mental health and emotional growth.
Feeding The Homeless for Christ is a self-support auxiliary that obtains food and clothing to help homeless people. This auxiliary facilitates twenty-two outings a year, twelve meetings a year and ten classroom sessions a year.
The ministry is dedicated to serving God through the spreading of the Good News of Jesus Christ and helping those who are less fortunate than us. Members learn how to apply what they have learned in a classroom setting to their outreach effort on the street; they receive an in-depth knowledge of personal evangelism.
The ministry also provides toys for more than 500 homeless children during December, and we serve food and clothing to a total of 6,000 homeless people at four of our biggest outings in May, July, August and December.
The ministry goes out twice a month in January, February, March, April, June, August, September, October and November. During the outings, the ministry provides hot meals and clothing to approximately six hundred (600) homeless people on the Westside of Chicago. At each outing we cut hair for men, women, boys and girls. We distribute personal hygiene items (deodorant, soap, lotion, hair-shampoo and hair conditioner.)
Every year the ministry networks with various shelters to provide them with clothing. (See the attached shelters list). Every year In November the ministry distributes one hundred turkeys on 47th and King Drive in Chicago to people who would not have a Thanksgiving meal.
